Commitment against deforestation

ICEC (Institute of Quality Certification for the Leather Sector) and CSCB (Brazilian Leather Sustainability Certification) are committed to eliminating deforestation and conversion of natural vegetation in the bovine leather supply chains originated from Brazil, where cattle ranching is a leading driver of forest loss and conversion. This commitment is underpinned by a strong sense of responsibility to build understanding and collaboration within the wider industry and achieve the desired levels of transparency.

In partnership with the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), and with the support of UNIC (Italian Tanners' Association) and CICB (Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry), we are proud to communicate to the marketplace the Deforestation and Conversion Free Leather project, a partnership focused on elevating the level of sustainability of the Italian leather originated from Brazil.

The project focuses on increasing transparency, enhancing supply chain governance and environmental responsibility in a multi-stakeholder approach, by incorporating DCF criteria into ICEC TS410/TS412 and CSCB certification protocols and by recommending DCF principles and criteria to be incorporated in procurement policies of members, associates and partner companies.
