Certification applicable to
The ICEC certificate is awarded to companies that have obtained ICEC certification covering environmental, ethical, social, and governance aspects.
Obtaining ESG accreditation means demonstrating that, as part of a company’s sustainability journey, all key system requirements have been implemented, ensuring compliance and performance in environmental, health and safety, social and governance areas in accordance with official standards recognised and certified by ICEC through independent, specialised, competent (i.e. accredited) third-party audits.
To achieve the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) upgrade, ICEC offers a specific programme that includes the mandatory application of the following standards: ISO 14001/EMAS for the environment, ISO 45001 for health and safety, the Code of Conduct and Social Responsibility/PAS 24000 for social aspects, and ISO 9001 for governance.
E: Environmental management
Responsible management of environmental resources is now one of the key requirements demanded by the market.
Through (UNI EN) ISO 14001 (or EMAS), the organisation identifies and monitors the environmental impacts of its activities, sets improvement targets, reduces consumption and emissions, promotes the efficient use of resources and ensures compliance with environmental legislation.
This system forms the cornerstone of the Environmental (E) component of the ESG framework and demonstrates the company’s concrete commitment to protecting the environment.
S: Social responsibility and the safety of people in the workplace
By adopting (UNI EN) ISO 45001, the organisation implements a management system dedicated to health and safety at work, aimed at preventing accidents and occupational illnesses, improving working conditions by encouraging the active participation of workers, and defining key roles and responsibilities.
The principles of social responsibility must be integrated with health and safety. The Code of Conduct and Social Responsibility, or the PAS 24000 scheme (currently being prepared for publication), therefore plays a decisive role, as they define the ethical principles that must guide everyone who works within the company and on behalf of the company, with the aim of ensuring fairness, transparency, respect for human rights, equal opportunities, legality, the fight against corruption and responsibility towards the supply chain.
G: Governance
Every efficient company is based on a management and leadership structure geared towards continuous improvement and customer service. The adoption of a Management System compliant with (UNI EN) ISO 9001 is a cornerstone of this approach. By defining business processes, responsibilities, objectives and performance monitoring procedures, the company demonstrates that it operates according to principles of organisation, transparency and continuous improvement.
Certification of the three ESG pillars
To obtain ESG recognition, the company must undergo the certification process with ICEC for all the aforementioned standards issued by ICEC (no exclusions are permitted), whilst complying with the specified timelines and audit frequencies (minimum annual visits and three-year validity of certificates).
The application of these certifications within this joint audit process also entails significant optimisations in terms of audit times and costs for the benefit of the companies, which will then also be promoted by ICEC as sustainable, with an UPGRADE to ‘ESG’ SUSTAINABLE status.
